I was working on a laptop when my brother stopped by. The adapter cord was a bit freyed and I was going to do a bit of saudering. He said that the small cut in the cord could easily be fixed with....Liquid electrical tape, I had never heard of the stuff but my brother being a mechanic used it all the time. The small gash was in an area that electrical tape was impractical and the liquid tape was the answer...Just FYI to all you Mr/Mrs Fixits out there...Get it here
